The Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG) is allocated by the University Grants Committee (UGC) to all UGC-funded Universities to enhance teaching quality and language proficiency of students. The University encourages continued efforts and innovative teaching development initiatives that lead to system-level improvements in teaching and student learning, while also identifying good practices that can be disseminated within the University and replicated across the higher education sector. For language enhancement, the University encourages continued efforts and new initiatives to enhance students’ language proficiency, and to undertake forward planning on the directive and the format of language activities/ programmes to improve students’ readiness to engage themselves in self-directed, life-long learning of languages.

The Funding Scheme for Initiatives on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is established with the specific purpose to encourage departments/units to develop formal courses or other initiatives in relation to the 17 SDGs and/or social responsibility for sustainable development.

The Funding Scheme is established to encourage departments/units and teachers to understand and investigate their teaching practice and student learning by pedagogical research, with an aim to further enhance student learning experience using the best approaches under the ever-changing educational landscape.

This funding scheme was first established in the 2019-22 triennium to encourage students to take ownership of their learning, and aims to involve postgraduate students as partners in teaching and teaching development. Postgraduate students can gain valuable experience through teaching and supporting the implementation of teaching development initiatives of the teachers.
