Senate

Under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, the Senate is vested with statutory powers and duties in respect of all academic matters in the University. The eight Faculties advise the Senate through the faculty boards on the programmes of study recommended by the departments, which deliver disciplinary teaching. The Senate’s powers and duties are stipulated in the University Ordinance and Statutes. The Academic and Quality Section serves as the secretariat for the Senate and a number of Senate Committees.

The Senate Academic Planning Committee is to assist and advise the Vice-Chancellor, in his capacity as Chairman of the Senate, on the academic policies and development of the University.

Senate Committee on Language Enhancement

The Senate Committee on Language Enhancement is established to keep under review the University’s policy on bilingual education and oversee the language enhancement programmes as well as promote the language enhancement efforts at the University.

Senate Committee on Physical Education

The Senate Committee on Physical Education is established to oversee and advise the Senate on physical education activities at the University.

Senate Committee on Student Discipline

The Senate Committee on Student Discipline is delegated by the Senate to handle matters relating to the discipline of students.

Senate Committee on Sub-degree, Professional and Continuing Education Programmes

The Senate Committee on Sub-degree, Professional and Continuing Education Programmes is established for the planning, implementation and quality assurance of Sub-degree, Professional and Continuing Education Programmes in alignment with the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework levels 1-6.

Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning

The Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning is established, among other purposes, to strengthen and coordinate the University’s policy on teaching and learning, and to enhance educational quality.
